“Banski Starcheta” and their captivating voices will transport you to a place far away, to the picturesque snowy peaks of Pirin Mountain in the heart of the Balkans. The strength and depth of their harmonized sounds will resonate within you, conveying the essence of their lyrics without the need for translation. Their enchanting performance at the wedding of Princess Kalina of Bulgaria elevated the experience for all royal guests.
Established in 1980 by Atanas Yanchovichin, Banski Starcheta’s mission goes far beyond unique songs and preserving traditional folklore. Atanas has sought out and revived hundreds of unique folk songs from Bansko region a significant contribution not only to the city’s history, but also to Bulgaria’s traditional musical heritage.
“Banski Starcheta” have received numerous awards at renown folklore festivals in Stambovо, Koprivshtitsa, Rozhen, Ruse, and “Pirin Sings”. Currently, the “Banski Starcheta” ensemble also comprises of a dance group, as well as children and youth groups. Atanas Yanchovichin’s groups have performed at various concerts throughout Europe including a standalone concert at the Mozart Hall in Vienna.
