SUMMARY:Once You Cross the Ocean (Theater Play)
DESCRIPTION:“Once You Cross the Ocean” is a flight from Bulgaria to New York on which six people are packed into one body. What is it like to immigrate? How do you recreate your culture in another country? What image would you like people to have of your homeland abroad? \n\n\n\nIn this one-person documentary performance\, Bulgarian theater-maker and Fulbright alumna Martina Novakova uses verbatim theater – the exact recreation of the words and gestures of interviewees – to bring to life the real stories of Bulgarian artists based in New York. The performance  investigates how we become translators of our own culture in a foreign context and how we carry our experienced territories in our bodies. \n\n\n\nWho is for? The production is bilingual and subtitled. It is for audiences coming from all around the world\, for Bulgarians\, their friends who want to get to know them better and for everyone who likes flying. “Веднъж прекосиш ли океана” е полет от България до Ню Йорк\, на който шестима души пътуват в едно тяло. Какво е да емигрираш? Как пресъздаваме културата си в чужда страна?
