DESCRIPTION:The documentary Vaklush by Nikolay Vasilev was shot over nearly 25 years and tells the story of the life and ideas of the renowned Bulgarian spiritual teacher Vaklush Tolev. \n\n\n\nOften called A Teacher of Wisdom\, Vaklush Tolev studied theology and was a lecturer and author of many religious\, cultural\, philosophical and historical texts. Persecuted and imprisoned during the communist regime\, he teaches that suffering is actually spiritual development and that evil is unevolved good. \n\n\n\nNikolay Vasilev is a prominent Bulgarian filmmaker whose documentaries have won numerous awards. His meeting with Vaklush Tolev while Vasilev was a first-year film student\, marked the beginning of more than 20 years of documenting the exceptional life of the spiritual teacher\, and of the filmmaker’s own spiritual journey. \n\n\n\nVaklush premiered at the Sofia International Film Festival in 2023\, where it became the most-watched documentary. Since then it has been shown in multiple festivals around the world and has won 9 awards in different countries. \n\n\n\nThe screening will be followed by a Q&A with the filmmaker. \n\n\n\nДокументалният филм „Ваклуш“ на режисьора Николай Василев е сниман в периода 1998-2022 г. и представлява разказ за житейския път и идеите на една от най-енигматичните личности на България – известния духовен водач Ваклуш Толев. \n\n\n\nНаричан Учителят на Мъдростта\, Ваклуш Толев е богослов по образование\, обществен деятел\, лектор и автор на множество трудове с религиозно-философска и културно-историческа тематика. Преминал през затвори и лагери на комунизма\, той твърди че страданието не съществува\, то е развитие\, и учи\, че няма зло – то е нееволюирало добро. \n\n\n\nАвтор на „Ваклуш“ е Николай Василев – един от най-изявените режисьори документалисти в България\, чиито филми са носители на десетки награди. През 2019 г. излезе филмът му „Формулата на Тео“\, посветен на известния учител по физика от Казанлък – Теодоси Теодосиев. Срещата му с Ваклуш Толев\, докато Василев е първокурсник по режисура\, е поставила началото на повече от 20 годишно заснемане на уникални документални кадри от живота на Учителя и на духовното развитие на самия режисьор. \n\n\n\nПремиерата на „Ваклуш“ бе на София Филм Фест през 2023-а година\, където стана най-гледаният документален филм. Oттогава е показван в многобройни фестивали в целия свят и вече има 9 награди от Америка\, Франция\, Индия\, Швеция и Швейцария. Във филма участват много видни личности от България. \n\n\n\n След прожекцията ще има среща с режисьора. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nParking: There is a parking garage in the same building as the theater. The entrance to the garage is on 11th street\, between G St. and Market St. on the West Side of the building. The rate is $5 for 3 hours. You must tell the attendant that you are going to a movie at Digital Gym in order to get this rate. Guests must park in spaces labeled “UCSD PARKING”. \n\n\n\nYou can access the cinema from the second level of the garage (one level below entrance) via two elevators. The theater is on the 2nd floor. Please note\, access to other levels is not permitted.
